Immeasurable Sacrifice
An Original Artwork by Chrissie Kar Wah
Scroll dimensions: 220cm x 100cm
Charcoal pencil on Watercolour Paper (300gsm, acid free)
Inspired by a curiosity discovered in Kar Wah’s childhood.
“What are all those badges on grandma’s bedroom curtain, especially the pretty little red flowers? Is it a real flower? What kind of flower is it?”
The realisation came with age, that the beautiful little red flower is a ‘Poppy’ and a symbol of sacrifice, remembrance and hope. It is a flower commanding our attention. Lest we forget.
Following the completion of ‘Immeasurable Sacrifice’, Kar Wah believes that the flower not only reminds her of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice but also resembles Christ’s posture on the cross after the greatest sacrifice ever made as referenced by John 15:13 —
‘Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.’
